This is an open letter to you and your cohort. Mostly because your tweets have begin to annoy me again, but more especially your assumption that you’re awesome at your job is even more egregious.
So as a citizen Rand Paul would never work with elected officials to fix problems? And I guess if a coal plant does get shut down that Rand won’t support nuclear energy? Even though there is a video where he calls coal “dirty” and the “least desirable form of energy” then goes on to speak about the positives of nuclear energy. What are you talking about? YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. You can’t be for coal, but in the same ad imply that you’re against nuclear, when in a video you say you’re against coal, but for nuclear. That makes zero sense. This Rand ad is stupid. Please take your out of state money and get out of my state. This is embarrassing and also why a blogger shouldn’t run a campaign.
Stop fabricating Rand’s position as a true conservative its insulting to real conservatives. Come clean to the fact that Rand is a Libertarian. It will make you feel better. Furthermore, taking Trey’s words out of context is “intellectually dishonest”, and making up something you didn’t say in the same speech Trey quoted you on is “intellectually dishonest”. Come to think of it, Rand in general is “Intellectually dishonest”, so Rand is more of politician than Trey Grayson and people know when your being “intellectually dishonest”. Example: KENTUCKY ENDORSEMENTS. Trey: OVER 60, Rand: ZERO. Some local support you have. I guess your banking on that Sarah Palin endorsement to mean more than over 60 local officials; clearly she has more influence over Kentucky voters than their local leaders. And don’t give me some stupid excuse as to how this exemplifies his “establishment” candidate motif. Have you ever talked to these county officials? I’m guessing not because you are too busy being a “darn tea partier”. They are far from the establishment. They are regular folks who want a better Kentucky. Attacking them as the “establishment” is attacking the core of Kentucky conservatives which is a poor idea.
Rand should probably wear Flip-Flops the next time he gives a speech as I am pretty sure that if he changes his position one more time (current list of issues he has flipped on: Abortion, Drugs, National Defense, and Energy) that he will earn a set of steak knives from Flip-Floppers-Anonymous inviting him to their next meeting. But he is the peoples candidate and not doing whatever it takes to get elected. *Insert eye-rolling here.
P.S. Stop wearing goofy sweaters that look like you’re going to a bad sweater Christmas party. Does no one on the Rand Paul campaign know how to dress appropriately? Buy a suit.
Rand Paul’s position that coal is the dirtiest form of energy America has is bad enough. KY doesn’t need a Senator who’s not foursquare behind the industry. Meanwhile, his campaign manager, David Adams, has also openly expressed his disdain for the sort of support that coal needs to survive the environmental assault. Joe Biden once famously said clean coal is a myth. Apparently David Adams agrees.
Here are two views on the danger in Iran getting nukes, the first serious, the second dangerous. In the Rand Paul video take note of the fact that Rand’s not only OK with Iran having a nuke, he actually thinks Iran’s justified in trying to get one because “they feel threatened.”
“I tell people in my speeches that the most important vote that any congressman or Senator ever has is on war and peace… and had I been in the Senate during the debate over Iraq or Afghanistan, I would have forced a vote on a declaration of war… had I been in the Senate I would have held things up.”
Great post from Sultan Knish, Daniel Greenfield’s blog. SK has been named as one of the most worthwhile blogs on the web by the Jewish Press. Check out his post here-
One flip flop Rand Paul hasn’t yet made is his opposition to the Patriot Act. In fairness, however, libertarians would probably agree that this lightweight chip off the old block has yet to make a strident, Ron Paul-esque critique of the program. Rather he concentrates on his web site on the way the bill was passed and on its potential to harm gun owners. Come on Rand, don’t wuss out- show your libertarian, out of state base what you really think of the act. But we digress. As we said, Rand opposes it-
But we just have to agree with his campaign manager, David Adams, on this one. At least we agree with the pre-Paul David Adams. The one in Bowling Green has learned the art of the flip flop so well that we doubt he still holds this view-
Uh, Oh. This won’t make the libertarian crowd very happy-
PAUL: I love my father and have great respect for him. What I most admire is that his vote is not for sale or rent. That does not mean I agree with him on every issue. I do not support eliminating all federal laws or penalties on marijuana. I do believe, in general, that issues of crime and punishment are best handled at the state level. I do believe that drug addiction (including alcohol, tobacco, and legal prescription drugs) is a serious problem. I do not think the federal government should mandate ten year sentences for drug possession. I think justice is better meted out my local judges in each community. I agree with Cal Thomas, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson that if a teenager is caught with drugs that counseling is preferred over federal laws which sometimes require ten years in jail.
OMG!!!!! Rand Paul is publicly saying he is willing to see people be convicted of federal crimes- felonies, no less- for possessing weed. How will the libertarian purists who are his base respond? What the hell happened to the “Leave Me Alone” coalition, Lucas from Seattle? How will Ky voters when they learn that this is just another flip flop? For instance-
One minute Rand’s waxing liberally about the need for freedom and responsibility, the next we know, he’s running for Senate on a platform of criminalizing pot. This guy doesn’t have an ounce of conviction!!!
Earlier today, Laurel County Republican malcontent Bryan Mills tried to inject himself into the battle between Ron Paul libertarian Rand Paul and common sense conservative Hal Rogers. On one hand, we thank Mr. Mills because his comments serve to further alienate Rand from the people he so desperately needs in the Old 5th. On the other hand, Mills makes this outrageous statement that certainly will land him in the Kooky Hall of Fame-
“While “maybe 20 people” would show up for an event with Congressman Hal Rogers or Secretary of State Trey Grayson, 50 to 75 people attend a Rand Paul event…”
It’s hard to imagine someone who’s been around Eastern Kentucky politics for so long making such a silly statement. Rogers regularly draws huge crowds at ribbon cutting ceremonies, Chamber of Commerce dinners and Lincoln Day Dinner. When we read that quote we thought for a moment that Mills, like most Rand donors and supporters actually lived in another state. But no, he’s a local who just a few years ago landed a job at a DEA/Homeland Defense Contractor, the very sort of program Rand Paul wants to end. He even sucked up to the Congressman not too long ago-
We hear Mills is upset he was passed over to be either Chair or Vice Chair of the 5th District GOP a few months back. That might explain some of it. Then again, perhaps Bryan’s recent reading has gone to his head. Just check out these awesome reviews from Facebook’s WeRead posted by Mr. Mills-
We can see, after reading Mr. Mills recent statements, where he might relate to Claudius. However, regarding history, he’d be well advised to look at Rogers’ history of electoral success in the district.
Wasn’t David Adams telling people over the weekend that Sarah and Rand were speaking on the phone? Oh well, guess that was a short conversation. Check out this priceless quote from CQ made just after Chris Wallace took Rand’s positions on Gitmo to task (a quote that’s sure to make its way into TV ads in the near future)-
“Republican former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska provided a less than vigorous defense of her endorsement of Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul’s campaign on Sunday, vaguely referencing his “domestic” agenda while mixing him up with his father, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas.”
Do Kentucky Republicans really want a U.S. Senate candidate who goes on this man’s talk show, who gets support from this man, who actually uses this man to raise money for his Senate bid?
Hats off to Barefoot & Progressive for finding this scary vid.
Multiple sources are reporting on the Pulaski County Lincoln Day Dinner last night. Hal Rogers was the keynote speaker and Trey Grayson attended. We hear that Hal Rogers all but endorsed Grayson speaking lavishly of the Secretary of State’s qualifications to be Senator. Note to out of state Rand supporters: Rogers is the Congressman for KY’s 5th Congressional District. He’s more popular than any pol in East Kentucky history. His base, meanwhile, called “the Old 5th” is one of the most Republican areas in the state.
Rogers’ right hand back in the district, Bob Mitchell, even wore a Grayson sticker. The audience, which consisted primarily of KY voters, unlike last week’s rally for Paul supporters across the mid-west, was very pro-Grayson. David Adams attended but judging from his Facebook updates, didn’t have much to say.
We’ve also been hearing reports that Rogers’ network has been actively helping Grayson in the old 5th for weeks. When Grayson announced his endorsements last week of County Judges and State Representatives, the list of backers from the 5th was quite impressive. To date, we know of no credible politico from this vitally important part of KY Republicanism who’s endorsed Paul. In fact, we know of only one halfway credible pol from the Old 5th who’s even flirting with the Paul campaign, and we hear that even he’s on the fence!!
We hear that pro-Israeli groups are watching this race closely. Ron Paul has consistently taken a position that would endanger the national security of Israel. He has publicly stated on numerous occasions that we should end all foreign aid to our closet ally in the Middle East. Further, some of his most ardent supporters are avowed Anti-Semites. Just another reminder on this snowy Monday on why Ron Paul is Too Kooky for Kentucky!
Will the Rand tune be this catchy? Who knew about those vicious implantable 666 chips?????
Lyrics
Wake up! Good morning America! Rise and Shine….:)
Ron Paul! Save our constitutional rights
Ron Paul! We’re not gonna give up the fight
Ron Paul! Start a revolution
and break down illegal institutions
We don’t want no war no more
bring our boys home to our shores
We don’t want big government
Or the Bilderberg group that pays for it
The Federal Id means a police state
and Mr. Jefferson’s rolling in his grave
when our names turn to numbers like 666
according to the gospel on implantable chips
Chorus
The Patriot Act took our liberties
And there’s no judge and no jury
Tapping our phones, breaking down our doors
waging on the people a civil war!
We work 3 jobs and bring home no pay
The IRS takes it all away
and we struggle, slave to pay the rent
So, Ron Paul for President
Chorus
(Ron Paul speaks)
Chorus
The choir at the end of the song is singing “Vote for Ron Paul”
At first we were like “what”, and then we were like “who?” and then we thought, “uh, who cares”, and then we said “who?” again. At least that was our initial reaction to hearing that some lady named Aimee Allen would be serenading Rand Paul this weekend when Rand rallies with Anti-War, Pro-Drugs, Anti-Police former libertarian candidate for President, Ron Paul. Then we did a bit of digging to find out who Aimee Allen is and we find out she’s a pro-choice, anti-war, anti-Patriot Act libertarian who once claimed on the Alex Jones Show (Jones, you’ll recall, believes 9/11 was a vast government conspiracy) that she was gang beaten by a bunch of crazy Mex’cans. THAT was newsworthy, we thought. By the way, where do the Pauls find so many crazy people this side of the asylum???
“I’ve gotten a few emails from women asking why I would support him considering his stance on abortion…. this is a touchy and very difficult one for me. With my women’s studies background and my devoutness to liberty and a touch of knowledge of a certain conspiracy theory…I find myself in a real quandary… Spiritually, I believe that God is love and has no judgement on either side of the issue. I could fervently defend both pro-choice and pro-life til I passed out and would never come to any resolve… So I have to shift my focus to priorities this election of the big picture, that I know no other candidate is talking about in a real way. For example, the war, the loss of Habeas Corpus…the Patriot Act… War on drugs…the Federal government poisoning it’s citizens with fucked vaccines and food and drugs… FDA…I fear we won’t have the freedom to even DISCUSS whether the government is right or wrong about anything without fear of imprisonment, penalty, being called a terrorist or lending yourself to wire-tapping……Speaking of which…my cell-phone, myspace, and computer have all been hacked since I put up the song……go figure.”
Ron Lewis endorsed Trey Grayson last night. Interesting move because Ron Lewis represented Rand Paul in Congress for more than a decade after the carpetbagger Paul moved to Kentucky. We expect this to be the start in a long rollout of endorsements and that it’ll pick up pace after the filing deadline passes.
Check out Ron Lewis’ dig on Rand over National Security, also something we expect to hear quite a bit in coming weeks since this is Rand’s biggest weakness in pro-military KY.
WHAS- “I know Trey will stand for the conservative principles Kentuckians believe in. He is 100% pro-life and when it comes to national security, Trey is the candidate we want representing the 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell, and Fort Knox. Trey understands the importance of not giving an inch to the enemy, working to prevent terrorists from being tried in the United States, and will work to keep the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo open. He understands that we don’t want suspected terrorists housed at Fort Knox or other U.S. facilities.”
The National Review has some good analysis on Scott Brown’s Senate win last night in Massachusetts. NRO says his keys to victory were his robust views on the War on Terror-
It was national security that put real distance between Scott Brown and Martha Coakley. “People talk about the potency of the health-care issue,” Brown’s top strategist, Eric Fehrnstrom, told National Review’s Robert Costa, “but from our own internal polling, the more potent issue here in Massachusetts was terrorism and the treatment of enemy combatants.” There is a powerful lesson here for Republicans, and here’s hoping they learn it.
One of the great frustrations of the Bush years was the fact that the administration had strong national-defense and counterterrorism policies that it shied away from defending. On enhanced-interrogation tactics, for example, President Bush’s position resonates with most Americans: When the nation is under siege, nothing is more important than getting life-saving intelligence. And, particularly when we are dealing with terrorists who are trained to resist interrogation and exploit our legal system, we must aggressively interrogate them and keep them out of our legal system. The opposing position, espoused most prominently by Sen. John McCain, was counterfactual and incoherent. Senator McCain pronounced both that enhanced interrogation (which he called “torture”) never works (which is patently untrue) and that an interrogator might at most use it in a ticking-bomb situation (the last situation in which you’d want to use it if, in fact, it never works).
If you thought John McCain might be a little squishy on terrorism, wait till you see what Rand and Ron Paul have been advocating.
For starters, no matter how hard Rand tries to run from it, he’s on record as saying we should close Gitmo and send the detainees home. After all, it’d take em at least a couple of years to make it back. Some may find that comforting, we call that kooky.
Then there’s the Patriot Act. He’s against it. He’s against strenuous interrogation too. And he’s against FISA, a measure which allows the federal government to tap the terrorists’ phones.
Finally, Rand is weak on Afghanistan and Iraq in a state containing both Ft. Knox and Ft. Campbell.
Rand’s national security views aren’t just kooky, they’re too dangerous for Kentucky!
The Rand Paul campaign just can’t make up its mind if it likes Mitch McConnell or if it hates him. For example, see the recent twitter post by David Adams posted at the bottom. In it, Adams is gooing over a recent American Conservative article about how much Ron and Rand are alike.
The problem is, the piece itself is highly critical of McConnell, who was a KY Senator back when Ron and Rand were running as Libertarians and trying to legalize H and cocaine.
Here’s how American Conservative talks about McConnell:
While his Republican primary opponent (Trey Grayson) enjoys the support of the GOP establishment, namely Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, it does not seem to be translating into votes. It will be interesting to see how extensively the RNC and the GOP establishment is willing spend resources on a campaign that is already looking desperate for Grayson. And if Grayson fails, will McConnell ever back Rand Paul?” It’s a good question, especially considering that men like Mitch McConnell are part of that old Republican guard that grassroots conservatives used to dutifully obey. Not anymore.
So which is it David? Will Rand stick with Mitch or Ditch Mitch?
Excellent video on Rand Paul, a True Patriot and Son of The Old Republic, if there ever was one. The man giving the narration looks like a young William Travis. I dig the ‘burns, very Texas-like.
I hope Texas starts us off with the secession. When there will come the day, there will come a time, and I will be alongside many, as we hoist our salutes to the joy of our Texas Brethren as they announce, in a hale and hearty farewell to ZOG: “Texas Secedes!!” (Followed by Rebel Yell).
Let’s get the ball rolling. Secession will always endure and never leave my lips, it is the fulmination and culmination of all of our hopes and dreams, it is the only way for us to get a White Nation, Red State Secession, before it is too late!
This is the emotional and ideological fuel behind the Rand Paul campaign. These are the nuts who give small batch donations to Rand Paul from across the nation and allow him to masquerade as something less than what he and his father both are: kooks.
With my first post I want everybody to realize how a Rand Paul supporter looks and speaks so that you are not tricked into taking a basketball schedule only to find Rand Paul’s pseudo-conservative face smiling at you on the other side.
Look: Rand Paul supporters will usually be wearing shirts and hats that say “Got Freedom”, “Don’t Tread on Me”, or will have Rand’s face on them. Yes I said shirts and hats, usually they will be matching. This shows how angry they are at the government which is super awesome except they won’t just wear it to rallies, but also at work, bars, and home. TO ALL RAND PAUL PEOPLE: IF I GO TO A BAR I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT HOW THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO DESTROY THE WORLD. (Sorry I had to get that off my chest). My personal favorite is when they have Rand’s picture on their shirt. It seems to me that wherever they go they have to match. I don’t know if that’s due to their lack of following so they feel they have to be in “uniform” or if they just prefer looking like a cult, probably a little of both. Always notice that the shirts and hats are black. So if you are at any sporting event, work, or the mall and see somebody handing out materials with a black shirt and black hat, run the other direction.
Speak: If a Rand Paul person is having what we call in the working world a normal dress day. That’s ok because other behaviors can be identified, but you will have to speak with them and unfortunately you will not get that piece of your life refunded. Rand Paul supporters have the magical and impressive ability to turn any conversation into a government bashing session. When they finish that they will start asking you really awkward questions such as: Do you enjoy your freedom? Have you seen the real conservative light yet? Do you use Marijuana? They will also begin to refer to themselves as Rand’s Rangers. This is my favorite. So not only do you have four middle-aged men/women asking you about your beliefs while they are wearing all black with Rand’s picture posted somewhere on them, but they also want you to sign up for their cool “Ranger Club”.
If they start asking you to join their club ask them these three questions and it should help ease them off your back: First, do I get a decoder pin? Second, if I join the club do I get a sweet call sign like “Maverick”? (David Adams would be “Weasel” and Rand’s would be “Rhino”) Third, do you guys actually support the military or do you make up your own little “Ranger Club” to make it seem like you support the military? These questions although a little harsh will immediately make them back peddle and/or cry. Either is fine by me.
Advice: Rand’s campaign is more like a cult than a campaign. This makes the characteristics listed above easy to identify. Rand Paul supporters wear the same shirts and hats at every event and they all talk to you like you are lost in the wilderness. They treat it more like a religion than a political campaign and to me that is scary. All I have to say is: Hey Rand how about you let Jesus do the saving?
